CNN Student News #2

Topic: " Rockets fall on northern Israel "

JERUSALEM (CNN) -- At least two Katyusha rockets fired from Lebanon landed near the northern Israeli town of Kiryat Shmona on Sunday, police and Israel Defense Forces said.

Lebanese security sources later reported that another rocket fired from Lebanon never made it across the Israeli border and landed near an observation post operated by the U.N.Interim Force in Lebanon.

A representative from the U.N. force called the attack a "serious violation of Security Council Resolution 1701 and of the cessation of the hostility agreement" that followed last year's war between Israel and Hezbollah militants.

"An investigation is under way," the representative said, asking all parties to "exercise maximum restraint."

All three missiles were launched using timing devices, and a fourth rocket failed to fire and is being dismantled by the Lebanese army, the sources said. (Watch the aftermath of the rocket attacks )Hezbollah quickly denied responsibility for the attack, Lebanese security sources said.

A Lebanese security source told the Israeli newspaper, Haaretz, that suspected Palestinian gunmen carried out the attack.

There were no reports of casualties, police said. Only minor damage was reported.

Video from Israeli television showed a damaged car on the side of a road, it's front bumper crushed and windshield cracked.

The launch sites were in the eastern portion of southern Lebanon, near the town of Marjayoun, which is controlled by Lebanese forces who are monitoring the border after last summer's war between Israel and Hezbollah.

The rockets were the first to land in northern Israel since Kiryat Shmona was pounded by hundreds of Katyusha rockets during the 34-day war.

According to media reports, Kiryat Shmona Mayor Haim Barbivai told Israel's Channel 2 that he wanted to see a strong response from Israel and the Lebanese government.

"Heaven help us if we have another summer like the last one. That would be a tragedy," Barbivai told the television station.

CNN's Brent Sadler contributed to this report.

Topic: " Roddick made to battle for title "

POSTED: 1949 GMT (0349 HKT), June 17, 2007

LONDON, England -- Andy Roddick survived a match point in the second set tiebreak before claiming a record equaling fourth Queen's Club title with a hard fought 4-6 7-6 7-6 defeat of unseeded Frenchman Nicolas Mahut.

The former world number one had to dig deep before seeing off the 106th ranked Mahut, who had accounted for Rafael Nadal, Ivan Ljubicic, Jonas Bjorkman and Arnaud Clement in an outstanding week.

Roddick said: "This was by far the toughest match I've ever played here and I feel pretty lucky to be standing in the winners circle.

" Hopefully I can carry that over to Wimbledon."
Roddick, who has lost only twice in 25 matches at Queen's, collected a cheque for 80,500 euros ($107,588) in winning his first tour title of the season.

He was delighted to have passed his coach Jimmy Connors' total of three Queen's titles and jokingly taunted the legendary American, who was courtside in west London.

"I had to win this one because for the only time in all the places we go, I've won a tournament more times than him," Roddick said. "That doesn't happen very often."
Mahut said: "I will remember this forever. It was like a dream. I just needed one for a point.
"I did my best but Andy was just too good. He is a great player and a great champion."

A powerful overhead smash on the first point showed that Mahut was not going to be overawed by the occasion. Roddick had admitted on Saturday that he feared Mahut's go-for-broke approach would make him a tough proposition and he was proved exactly right.

Mahut, who gave a glimpse of his grass court potential when he won Junior Wimbledon in 2000, has a big enough serve but concentrates more on placement and then coming in to volley than blowing opponents off court.

Roddick managed to earn just one break point in the first set, at 4-4, when Mahut showed a rare moment of hesitancy at the net and put a volley long.

The danger was quickly snuffed out by a more accurate Mahut volley and, with Roddick visibly becoming frustrated by his failure to break, the Frenchman made him pay in the next game.

Mahut had been unable to put Roddick's serve under threat in the early stages, but with the American serving to stay in the set, Mahut was presented with his first break point after a wild forehand.

He gratefully seized it to clinch the set thanks to another unforced error from Roddick, this time an overhit backhand, and pumped his fists in triumph.

No-thrills affair
Both players were serving well enough that the second set was a no-thrills affair with no break points. It went to a tiebreaker and Mahut moved to match-point on Roddick's serve, but netted with his opponent out of position.

Roddick pounced immediately. He won a set point and Mahut cracked, putting a volley into the net to give the American the set.

Mahut's deft use of angles kept Roddick off-balance and he won one point he had no right to reach thanks to an acrobatic dive in the 10th game of the final set.

With the combined ace count reaching 43, Roddick hitting 22, by late in the final set, a tie-break was inevitable.

It was Roddick who got the decisive break when his forehand hit the net and bounced in over Mahut's racket. That was all the encouragement Roddick needed and he clinically closed out the match.

Gaudio pulls out
Gaston Gaudio announced his withdrwal from Wimbledon on Sunday.

The 2004 French Open champion, who has never advanced past the second round at the All England Club, will be replaced by Juan-Pablo Guzman of Argentina.

Xavier Malisse, Jurgen Melzer, Paradorn Srichaphan and Jose Acasuso previously announced their withdrawals from Wimbledon, which starts on June 25.

Anastasia Myskina, the women's champion at the 2004 French Open, has also withdrawn, along with Zheng Jie and Romina Oprandi.

Final Exam - Describe my blogging experiences.

This semester we have a Internet English class, and our teacher- Emma want us to design a blog by ourselves, it is quite interesting to me. At first, we began the class from the textbook, there are so many words that I ever seen before, it is all about the computer and all in English. However, after few weeks later, I feel more relax for this class, because teacher Emma always taught me step by step. In this class teacher give us a lot of activities, like searched and collected the information on the Internet....etc. The most interesting activity is put a “ movie trailer ” and “ music “ on my blog, because I have a blog on “ Wretch-無名小站 ”, but I do not know how to put the images and music on my blog until teacher taught me, so it is very fresh to me. And an other interesting activity is the “ Hot Potato “, and teacher taught one of the function called “ J Cloze “ to us. It is quite interesting to me, because we usually saw “ J Cloze “ on some learning websites, and I never know how to do this. At first, I though “Hot Potato” must be very difficult, but after listen what the teacher told and practice it by myself, I feel it is not very difficult to me. And the chat room activity is fun, too. One day, teacher Emma asked us to went to a chat room and have a chat with my group members. She want us to improve our English. It is hard to chatting in English, because we can not type English very quickly. You can saw our chatting dialogue, we just use many simple vocabulary, because we can figure out the vocabulary or sentences that we learned before. Although, I do not think that our English was improved in the chat room activity, but it is a good experience to chatting in English with my group members and it is a good practice for our poor English, too. The most difficult subject is the “ HTML “, because there are many HTML code in the template. Every time I try find some code that I want to change or add, it always took me a lot of time to find that. If I put the code in error, my blog will be very horror, because every will be mess; so I do not like the HTML, it is too difficult to me.
In brief, I think this class is very interesting and I really learned a lot of computer skill in this semester.

Final Exam - Describe my blog

Right now, I want to describe my blog. The first thing I done in my blog is choose a name for my own blog, and I named my blog “ Love & Peace ”, because I think love and peace are all we need in this world. The first article that teacher give us are “ introduce ourselves and add a picture in it “. The second article is find “ five English-English online dictionaries and five English-Chinese online dictionaries “. The third article is “ fine five language learning websites “ and write down each of the websites’s characters. After we finished the second and third article, teacher want us to make a “ hyberlinks “ for those websites, and put these links on our blog. The forth article is fine the answers about “ weblog “ on Internet. It is very difficult, because there are too many answers about the weblog, it is hard to choose for my questions. The fifth article is fine a “ news “ on Internet, it is the easy one. The sixth article are put a “ movie trailer ” and “ music “ on our blog. This is the most interesting article. The seventh article is record two news, one is by ourselves and the other one is cooperate with my partner. It is quite fun. The eighth article is “ Hot Potato “, and we learned one of the function called “ J Cloze “. The ninth article is “ Reviewing Websites ”. It is kind of easy, because we just need to go the website that we already found in the “fine five language learning websites “, and write down what’s the good points and bad points of those websites. The tenth article is “ chat room”. The last article is “ What I learned from this class”. I write down all I learned form this class. This is all my blog’s description.

Final Exam - Describe my chatting experiences with my peers.

Nowadays, many people like to go to chat room to chatting with friends or some one they do not know. It is because people, especially for the youth, who do not want to waste too much money for the bills of their telephone or cell phone. And it is convenience for use the chat room like “ Yahoo Messenger “ or “ Msn Messenger “. They can save a lot of time for us, people do not need to waste too much time to dial the phone number to their friends or family. In the chat room, we can chatting with different people at the same time. Nonetheless, it also have some disadvantage for use the chat room. When people use the chat room, they will forget the time. Then people will sit on the chair and stare at the screen for a long long time, it is not very good for people to use computer for long time.
For our Internet English class, our teacher, Emma, who want us to chatting with our peers in a chat room and we just use English to chatting only. Now, I’d like to talk about my chatting experiences with my peers. First, we went to the same chat room- the Msn Messenger, my peers include Jeff, Peggy, Irene and me. We started to said hello to each other and introduced ourselves. I asked my peers about their plan for the weekend, and we all think about what kind of thing we can do for our weekend. Suddenly, Irene said some thing about our project topics, so we stopped to think about our plan for weekend. Then we started to discuss our project topic. Jeff , Peggy and I all want to do some kind of “ teaching children “ or “ tourism English “, but Irene do not like to do these two. So we started to thinking about what we could do. Being a while, we still can’t think out other topics, so we decided to asking our project adviser- Heather, next Monday. Then we say goodbye to each other, because of it is the time for the listening class. It is the summary for our chatting.
This is the first time I use all English in chat room with my peers. It is kind of difficult to chatting in all English, because during the time I chat with my peers, I really want to use some Chinese to explain what I want to say and what my thought exactly. Although, I can not use English very fluent with my peers, but it is a good practice for me.

Song: Someday We'll All be Free

Singer: Alicia Keys

URL : http://www.youtube.com/watchv=TTiCO_YwWxM&mode=related&search=

Lyric:

Hang on to the world

as it spins around

just don't let the spin get you down

things are moving so fast

hold on tight and you will last

keep your selfrespect,

your manly pride

get yourself in gear

keep your stride

never mind your fears

brighter days will soon be here

Take it from me

someday we'll all be free. Yeah

Keep on walking tall,

hold your head up high.

lay your dreams right up to the sky

sing your greatest song

and you keep growing, growing on
